What is Biometrics?

Biometrics is defined as an automated method of identifying a person based on a physiological characteristic. In the case of BioAxxis, that characteristic is a fingerprint. Unlike keys, passwords, security cards, etc.; your fingerprint cannot be lost, shared, or duplicated.

How can BioAxxis biometric products make securing my home or office easier – and more secure – than regular locks?

If we look at different forms of locks (even those considered to be cutting-edge) we find that they all have certain chinks in their armor that can allow anyone in and even keep you out:

• Keys, Keycards, and Badges:
Keys and keycards can easily be stolen and/or copied to allow unauthorized access. Convenience and human error can also be a factor here as keys and keycards can be lost or forgotten. When users forget or lose their keys, keycard, or badge; productivity is lost while they search or return home for them.

Passwords and PIN numbers can easily be observed and then stolen by users who want access. Based on how complicated you password and PIN numbers are, they can easily be copied or narrowed down by computer algorithms. Also, this kind of access is the most sharable and thus, the most exposed. No key has to change hands, the real user doesn’t have to be present at access, and only a word or number has to be uttered to have security breached by anyone listening. Even though this form of access isn’t something that can be forgotten at home, it can be forgotten in an even more inconvenient and time-consuming way: If a user can’t remember their password or PIN number, they must be registered as a user again and the system is often reset just for them. This requires more time for the user and the administrator.

Many people think that having a guard or manager at an access point makes their home or business more secure. However, as opposed to a high security machine, it can be tricked. Users who present fake IDs, create occupational distractions, or even use brute force can easily circumvent a guard.

• Residential or Commercial Use:
This decision is usually based on the number of registered users you need for each biometric fingerprint door lock. If you have a large commercial building with a large work force, you’ll probably need the BioAxxis CFS-1700C or CFS-1700M, both of which can register up to 1000 users. Of course, 1000-user capacity isn’t necessary for your home.

For home biometric locks, we suggest a smaller door lock that blends beauty and security. The BioAxxis BD1 (30 users) or BD1HS (100 users) is perfect for residential use.

• Temperature and Weather Requirements:
To decide your temperature and weather requirements, your locks’ placements must be definite. Are your biometric fingerprint door locks going to be indoors or outdoors? If they are outdoors, are they in direct sunlight and rainfall? If they are indoors, are they kept at room temperature or in a vestibule where it can fall below zero in winter? These are important questions as the materials and construction of each BioAxxis lock dictates how it can be protected from naturally occurring damage. Many of our biometric fingerprint door locks have sliding weatherproof covers to protect the fingerprint sensor from rain, snow, humidity, UV rays, and dirt. The sliding cover also act as a power switch to turn the sensor on when it is opened; thereby preserving battery power.

• Finger Conditions and Secondary Access:
IIn some cases, such as at a construction site, workers’ hands can be dirty and worn causing the sensor to misread fingerprints. In these cases, BioAxxis locks offer secondary access with keys or PIN numbers. This allows access to some users while others can still use their fingerprints. Our secondary access options are top-quality. For example, our secondary keys can only be duplicated by a professional locksmith. Secondary access options can be found in products like the BioAxxis BD1 and MA1AT.

• Security Level:
We offer standard biometric security products like the BioAxxis BD1 for users who have basic security requirements. However, we also offer high-security versions of products like the BioAxxis BD1HS. This lock utilizes an impact alarm; a high-security cylinders; an ANSI Grade 1, UL-Listed (3-hour fire rated) deadbolt; and an upgraded motor.

• What are you protecting?:
If you are trying to protect your home or business, BioAxxis biometric fingerprint door locks are the ideal solution. However, if you want to protect smaller valuables such as jewelry, important documents, keepsakes, money, or small arms, there is no better way than with one of our biometric fingerprint safes. Our safes are fire-protected, securely anchored, offer mechanical key override for emergencies, and have more security than any dial, key, or keypad locking system. Our safes come in 3 different sizes, the BioAxxis S1300, S2500, and the S800 to be able to properly secure your valuables.

• False Acceptance Rates (FAR) and False Rejection Rates (FRR):
BioAxxis products’ FAR and FRR are some of the lowest in our industry. As fraud and theft continue to grow on traditional door locks, ours continues to shrink as the technology evolves and thieves are thwarted. Biometrics already has the best FAR and FRR as compared to ordinary locks, and it continues to get better while traditional locks stay the same. Shouldn’t you be on the winning side? Our lowest FAR and FRR can be found in products like the BioAxxis BD1.

• Tracking:
In many cases security has to go beyond just letting certain people in and keeping others out. Sometimes an Audit Trail is necessary. Many of our products have the ability to record who enters, when they entered, when they left, and what they used for access.
